3 Objectives Find out why the US wanted to build the Panama Canal?
Learn about the goals of Roosevelt’s “big stick” diplomacy Discover some ways in which the foreign policies of President Taft and Wilson differed from those of President Roosevelt. Main Idea: President Teddy Roosevelt conducted a vigorous foreign policy that suited the new status of the US as a world power. President Taft and Wilson took a different approach to influencing other nations.

Taft and Dollar Diplomacy, “dollars for bullets” Dollar diplomacy: maintain peace by investing money in foreign economies Host countries liked it, others did not Wilson’s policy called moral diplomacy Intervened in Mexico’s civil war – sent troops after Pancho Villa (Pershing) went to far and Mexico’s army attacked – US left in 1917
