1 Ways of displaying Function “stuff”
2.1 FUN functions Ways of displaying Function “stuff” 2.1 Function as Relations, Mapping, Table, and Graphs I can: Express a relation as a table, a graph, a mapping and a set of ordered pairs.

2 Review: Can you plot points?
B (2, 7) C (0, -4) D (-4, -6) E (5, 0) F (9, -1) II I y-axis III x-axis IV

3 Making A Nifty Vocabulary Book:
You and your partner should have two sheets of white paper, one sheet of color paper and one pair of scissors Stack the 3 sheets of paper and cut them lengthwise (hotdog)

4 You and your partner each get one strip of color paper and one of each of the white strips
Stack your three strips with: Top – white strip without graphs Middle – white strip with graph Bottom – color strip Fold the strips in half so the color paper makes a cover, staple the edge Put your name on the front cover and make a title MORE ON THIS LATER

5 Relation ** Label the 4 quadrants Table: Graph Mapping:
Rule: Characteristics: Common Mistakes: Example: Table: Graph Mapping: Relation A set of ordered pairs Ex. (2, 3) (4, 5) (-4, 3) The X values What goes into a function Domain: Range: Inverse: The y values What comes out of a function Switching the x and y values

6 Example 1 Given: (3, 2) (-1, 4) (0, -3) (-3, 4) (-2, -2)
1. Show the graph x y Plot the points -3 -2 -1 3 3 -1 -3 -2 -3 -2 2 4 2. Show the mapping 3. Show the table x y 4. Give the inverse (2, 3) (4, -1) (-3, 0) (4, -3) (-2, -2) 5. Give the domain x {-3, -2, -1, 0, 3} 6. Give the range y {-3, -2, 2, 4}

7 Example 2 5 7 1 4 2 Given: -9 1. Show the graph 2. Show the relation
1 2 -9 Given: 1. Show the graph 2. Show the relation 3. Show the table 4. Give the inverse 5. Give the domain 6. Give the range

8 Your turn x y 4 3 -2 1 -3 2 2 -4 -4 Given: 1. Show the graph
-4 Given: 1. Show the graph 2. Show the mapping 4. Give the inverse 5. Give the domain 6. Give the range

9 Vocab foldable

10 Did you master today’s objective?
Think to yourself… Given the point (3, 2) What is the domain? 3 What is the range? 2 What is the inverse? ( 2, 3)
