Figure 1 Zika virus interaction with skin cells. (1) ZIKV infects both keratinocyte and fibroblasts. (2) ZIKV can activate the RLR pathways and (3) induce secretion of interferon, which is an antiviral molecule and (4) may partially control the infection. (5) In response, the NS1 protein of ZIKV can inhibit activation of RLRs, allowing the virus to partially escape from the immune host defense.
