2. Title & Time Frame Title :- Time-Frame:-
Developing OSH and HIV-AIDS awareness among
Tea estate workers of 25 estates in Badulla District
Time-Frame:-
August 2011 – December 2011 (5 months)

3. Background and Justification
Estate workers belong to the group with high poverty.
Workers involved in pruning and processing are most vulnerable to occupational injuries and diseases.
Most of them are women (75%). Amount of personal protection equipment supplied to them is very less.
However, they do not use these equipments or wrongly use because of ignorance.
They are daily wage earners. When they can not work due to injuries, they do not get an income. Therefore, creating awareness among them is very necessary to improve their situation.

4. Target Groups and Parties Involved
25 Estate workers (female-18, male-7) from 25
Tea Estates in Badulla District.
1250 estate workers will be ultimate beneficiaries.
Parties involved:
Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Plantation, ILO Colombo

5. Objectives:- 25 Tea Estates will have a trained worker to create
awareness on OSH and HIV/AIDS for workers in
each estate.

6. Activities:
Discuss with our Union Leadership about the necessity to carry out awareness sessions on OSH and HIV/AIDS among estate workers,
Discuss with Estate Level Union Leaders about conducting a Training of Trainers programme,
Discuss with ILO-Colombo , Plantation Ministry and Labour Ministry about their assistance,
Decide about the resource persons

7. Activities: Prepare the training module and training material,
Select 25 workers from 25 estates (one from each estate),
Finalize the logistics,
Conduct training
