Why do we - - Give? What is the purpose of giving money to the church?

What is the church? Jesus bought the church with his blood.
The church is a fellowship (a group with like purpose). What was that purpose for the church? Worship NOTE: Having a place to assemble for worship requires some money. NOT: Political power NOT: Social club NOT: Recreational, pleasure, fun

Why do we give each Sunday?
Simple answer – Commanded 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2 On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. Second Question: What do we do with the money given?

1 – Edification Edify = strengthen, hold up, support, encourage
Acts 4:36 And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Personal visits – sick, grief, accident Personal visits – baptism, marriage, birth of child Take food, send flowers, send cards, phone calls Many other personal ways to encourage one another

The church also is involved in edification: Gospel Meeting, Sermons each week to teach, encourage Vacation Bible School Bible classes – Sunday and Wednesday night Literature, supplies to teach and encourage others Worship – sing, pray, teach, communion = edification

2 – Benevolence Benevolence = meet needs of those in difficult situations Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. 1 John 3:17-18 But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

2 – Benevolence Benevolence = meet needs of those in difficult situations In benevolence – We put our money where our claim is. We care about the world, the lost, the hurting, the suffering, those is temporary situations of need Local – for members, for those in this area World – Tornado, Hurricane, Fire, Flood, etc.

3 - Evangelism Evangelism = telling the good news (gospel)
Mark 16:15-16 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. Luke 24:46-47 Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Why do we Give? Giving money to the church is the way to do all the work the church has been given to do here on earth. 1 – Worship – A place to assemble, worship and teach 2 – Edification – Help each other grow in knowledge and faith 3 – Benevolence – Assist those in time of need 4 – Evangelism – Teach the lost around the world (including here)
