2. Objective
Write a 3-5 paragraph PARCC Research Simulation Task response, using 3 of the 7 characteristics of a civilization we discussed, to explain how Ancient Sumer was a civilization.
Use quotes from the textbook, The Sumerian Times Reading, and History of a Civilization Video provided to you in order to cite evidence to support. Two sources are mandatory in your response.

5. Citing Example
One characteristic necessary to be considered a civilization is a stable food supply. In Sumer, the Sumerians created an irrigation system to help produce a stable food supply. In the textbook it states “the Sumerians built networks of canals, dams, and reservoirs to provide their crops with a regular supply of water” (pg. 43). Without water, the crops would not be able to grow and there would not be a stable food supply.
