Personal, Social & Emotional Development SEAL: Going For Goals & Relationships Read Fran’s Flower – talk about having patience. What do the children find difficulty waiting for? Talk about plants that grow to provide us with food & drink. Talk about farmers and the work they do. Talk to the children about looking after living creatures Discuss food, water, shelter, care, exercise. Circle time - children tell about their pets and how they care for them. Look at life cycles - use books & pictures - what would it feel like to be one of these creatures? Understanding the World Investigate - What do seeds need to grow? (put 1 dark, 1 no water, 1 no soil, 1 no air, 1 with water/air/light/soil). Plant broad beans in transparent jars & observe their growth. Observe the life cycle of a caterpillar using the caterpillar/butterfly garden Use magnifying glasses - discuss how things appear larger. Sort a range of pictures of animals into those that lay eggs and those that don't. Learn parts of plants. Learn about Life Cycles – Tadpoles Communication & Language Listen attentively in a range of situations. Listen to stories, accurately anticipating key events and respond to what they hear with relevant comments, questions or actions. Give attention to what others say and respond appropriately, while engaged in another activity. Follow instructions involving several ideas or actions. Answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about their experiences and in response to stories or events. Express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs. Use past, present and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future. Develop own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events. Literacy What could we grow in our vegetable garden? How have I changed since I was a baby? Are all minibeasts scary? What & Why does the hungry caterpillar eat? Jasper’s Beanstalk, Mad about minibeasts! Superworm! The very hungry caterpillar, Caterpillar to butterfly, What the Ladybird Heard, The bad tempered ladybird, The very busy spider, First fabulous facts – minibeasts, The Tiny Seed, Titch, Camille & The Sunflowers. Use non-fiction books to find answers to our questions Make a class non-fiction book Instructional & Recount Writing Phonics - Phase 3 Garden centre: role - play. Write labels for garden centre. ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ Summer Half Term 2017 Reception Class Maths Beginning to use mathematical names for ‘solid’ 3D shapes and mathematical terms to describe them Select a particular named shape Use familiar objects and common shapes to create and recreate patterns and build models.
