Windows 8 Upgrade Prerequisites You must have purchased a new Windows 7 PC on or after June 2nd, 2012 or before January 31, 2013. You will need to have the Windows 7 product key from the machine that you are upgrading. The numbers will be on a small Microsoft sticker on your PC. You will want to have either a DVD burner or an empty 3GB USB flash drive in order to store the download. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade The Upgrade Offer page To begin the process, launch your browser and head on over to Microsoft's Windows 8 Upgrade Offer page. This is a direct link to the United States – English page. Click the Continue button. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade Purchase information When you get to the registration page, you'll need to fill in the requested personal information as well as some basic information about your Windows 7 PC. As you can see, in addition to the PC brand and model number, you'll need to specify the date of purchase as well as the name of the retailer where you purchased the system. Windows 8 Upgrade Carefully Enter Your 25 Character Windows 7 Product Key Now scroll down the page to the Security Check and type the characters that you see in a blurry image in order to prove that you are a person and not an automated program. You'll then select a check box to agree to the terms of use and click the Continue button. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade On the validation page make note of the Reference ID number at the top of the page. The number is blurred in the screen shot below. Then, enter the 25 character Windows 7 product key from the machine that you are upgrading. Click the Continue button This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade Success Page On the success page you'll see the personal and purchase information entered earlier. Scroll down the page, to find information regarding next steps. You will need to wait a few moments for an message that includes your Promo Code. At this point, just click the Close button. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade The You will receive two messages. The first one serves as your registration confirmation and includes your registration number. This is the same number as the Reference ID number you saw on the validation page. The second message contains your Promo Code and a link to the Upgrade Assistant page. Make note of the Promo Code as you'll need it later on. Click the Download Upgrade Assistant button. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade The Upgrade Assistant When the Upgrade to Windows 8 page opens, you'll see the Download Upgrade Assistant button. Click this button. Do not bypass the Upgrade Assistant. It is important to proceed through the Upgrade Assistant process. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade Step One In The Wizard The User Account Control page opens and you will select Yes. Once the UAC pages closes, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant immediately goes to work checking you applications and devices. Windows 8 Upgrade Ignore This Price When you close the report window and click Next, a prompt appears asking you to choose a version of Windows 8. However, since the upgrade offer is only for Windows 8 Pro you can only select to download Windows 8 Pro. When you proceed, you will be prompted to review your order. Windows 8 Upgrade The Download As soon as you complete the purchase, the download will begin. Once the download is completed, the Upgrade Assistant checks the download, and then prepares the files. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade ISO file for a DVD Once the files are prepared, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant will prompt you to choose how to install the new operating system. Rather than immediately beginning the install or saving the installation files on your desktop, you can choose to create an ISO file to burn to a DVD. As the snapshot shows, you can also put Windows 8 on a USB flash drive. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!

Windows 8 Upgrade ISO File to DVD Once the ISO file is created you can open the DVD burner and immediately burn the DVD. This screen also provides the location on your hard disk where the ISO file was created, and Product key information for your product. Click Finish to end. Windows 8 Upgrade Burn the ISO to DVD Burning the ISO to DVD in Windows 7 is an easy procedure with the built-in Windows Disc Image Burner. Just right-click on the ISO file and select the Burn disc image command from the context menu. When you see the Windows Disc Image Burner window, insert a DVD disc, and select the Verify disc after burning check box. Then click the Burn button. The burn operation will take a few minutes to complete. These steps are illustrated in the following slide. With the Windows 8 Pro safely burned to a DVD, you can install it later on your computer and save it for re-installs. This is provided for PERSONAL COMPUTER USE only!
