Findings Working Group 1
Design for the symbols for classification: symbols for classification to be different from those for prohibition or advice against; classification symbol either “disk with water droplets” or “water drops with smiley faces”; dates of classification to be added; text “excellent” etc to be added; link to more in-depth information to be displayed; Design for the symbols for prohibition / advice against: = ISO symbols; Colour schemes: red (poor) – green (sufficient) – green/blue (good) – blue (excellent).

Findings Working Group 2
Design for the symbols for classification: smiley faces not appreciated; preference for “water droplet” symbol; Design for the symbols for prohibition / advice against: signs = ISO, with option to add additional information; Colour schemes: colour scheme under the Water Framework Directive to be taken into consideration; partial agreement on colour scheme: red (poor) – green (good) – blue (excellent).

Findings Working Group 3
Design for the symbols for classification: majority preference for swimmer as already developed by ISO as public information “swimming permitted”; smiley face not appreciated; principle of increasing numbers (1-2-3 swimmers etc); no need for supplementary text, as people would understand the symbol from their own country; Design for the symbols for prohibition / advice against: one symbol for both = ISO symbol “Do not swim”; supplementary information still to be discussed; Colour schemes: no final findings; orange not appreciated (as it would indicate danger/stop with traffic lights); agreement on “red (poor) – blue (excellent)”; majority supporting green (good) – yellow (sufficient).
