3 OVERVIEW The purpose is to provide practice with one part of the edTPA called the Context for Learning; This form also helps you identify specific needs in your classroom The Context for Learning form is what the edTPA evaluator uses to understand your specific classroom environment We want you to know how to fill it out now, so you will simple for you while student teaching

4 Overview: The Context for Learning is the only assignment you TURN IN at the midpoint

5 Directions for the assignment?

6 Directions You will practice completing one small part of the edTPA, so when you do it “for real” next semester, it will be simple for you. You will find use the edTPA Elementary Handbook Context for Learning You will find the edTPA templates that you will use during student teaching and type into that template for this assignment You will record some information about your school and classroom You will record some information about specific needs of the students in your class

7 What do I do now?

8 Download your Elementary EdTPA Handbook From Community Blackboard- Current semester EdTPA
2 1 3

9 Find the Context for Learning Information in the edTPA Handbook
You will notice that there are 2 listed here. We suggest using the “Literacy” If you are in a classroom that only teaches math then use the math one. If you are in a classroom that only teaches science or social studies, just use the literacy form and put NA next to items you don’t know

10 Have a discussion with your CT
You can let your CT know that you will have a few questions about some of the students who need specific supports Aim to talk to your teacher in the third or fourth visit, so you have had some time to watch and gather your own ideas about the students If you were late getting started in your placement or weather or holidays have delayed your placement, don’t worry. Just send your professor an with FW3 “Context for Learning” in the subject line. Let your professor know the date when you can have the assignment completed.

11 Read over the first page
Just answer the questions that you can. You will leave some blank or put NA. Remember the purpose is to give you practice so you already know this form when you are completing the edTPA When you are in student teaching, you will be there every day—you will know more details

12 Ask your CT about needs of students
Some districts will let you look at IEPs/504s or summary information about students with special needs. Some districts will not let you do this. Either way is okay. Just by watching students in the first few fieldwork visits, you will be able to identify some needs that you see.

13 What do I need to do later when I complete the assignment?

14 Find the edTPA template You will type into the template It is on Blackboard Community

15 When you complete this page,
Delete the preprinted information. That is provided to give you a model. **If you are in an inclusion class, you do not need to list all 12 students with IEPs…pick a few to practice this process with **If you are in an ENL class, you do not need to list all 20 ENL students, pick a few to practice this process with

16 Use the Context for Learning template and type directly onto it
When you are finished, load it onto LiveText This is the same process you will use when you complete the edTPA

17 Due dates are posted on FW3 the website
This is the ONLY item submitted for the midpoint—look at your Activity Checklist Submit on LiveText Due dates are posted on FW3 the website ( your professor if you need more time due to late start in placement, etc.)
