Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) What do you need to work on completing for the homework on Douglass’ autobiography? (suggested answers may include: reading the book, answering the book questions, or completing the post-it notes) 2.) What can you conclude about the adversities that Douglass experienced and how he overcame them? *Show any owed HW. Objective: Students will be able to identify textual evidence of adversities and overcoming adversities in Douglass’ Narrative. .

Monday, February 25th, 2019 Aim: How do we identify textual evidence of adversities and overcoming adversities in Frederick Douglass’ autobiography? Objective: : Students will be able to identify textual evidence of adversities and overcoming adversities in Douglass’ memoir. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Work Period: Work on finishing the reading and answering the HW questions. Compose post-it notes (you need 15 adversity post-it notes and 5 overcoming adversities post-it notes). On each post-it note, you must include the following: 1.) A direct quote or paraphrase of textual evidence from the novel that supports a character's adversities or a character overcoming adversities. 2.) The proper in-text citation (which includes a page #). Here's an example: Douglass was ignorant of his exact birthday and his exact age (p. 1). 3.) Analysis: At least one sentence in which you explain the significance (importance) of the textual evidence. You may use a sentence starter: This evidence proves that..., Readers may infer that..., or The evidence can be analyzed to mean that... Work on answering the chapter questions. D.) Q & A/Reflections: What challenges arose for you in completing the work today? How can you tackle those challenges tonight?
