2 Prompt: Write an essay in which you discuss Harry Potter as a hero.
Student Sample (Theme) Bravery cannot exist where defense of the weak is easy. (More stuff) Often, in order to help others, a hero must be willing to act in ways that are scary. (Thesis) In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling, Harry risks much so that he can be a champion for the underdog.

3 NOTE: The first two sentences do NOT mention the literature – in any manner.

4 Discuss how the central character changes in the short story, “The Beginning of Something.”
Sometimes, a simple experience can help a person see life in a different way. With a new perspective a person is able to better understand himself and others. In the short story, "The Beginning of Something" by Sue Ellen Bridgers, a humbling occasion changes how Roseanne, the central character, feels about herself and the people in her life.

5 Write an essay in which you discuss how Bradbury uses language to reveal Montag’s internal struggle in the passage on pages Familiarity provides people with comfort and reassurance. Yet, that security can be a façade, a protection from the challenges in life, an escape from reality. Through the use of diction and contrast in the passage on pages of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, the central character, Montag, is torn from his false reality, leaving him confused and struggling to face the truth.

6 The challenges of day to day life are often overcome through one’s convictions. When those beliefs are shattered, however, one is left alone and confused.
