Plans and Elevations Isometric Drawings Key words and definitions Cube – a box shaped solid that has 6 identical square faces. Cuboid – a box shaped solid that has 6 faces, some or all of the faces are made of rectangles Prism – a solid shape which has 2 parallel ends and flat faces. Triangular Prism– a solid shape which has 2 parallel triangular ends and flat faces. Cylinder – a solid shape which has 2 parallel circular ends and flat faces. Square based pyramid – a solid with a square base and 4 identical triangular sides which meet at a vertex at the top of the shape Tetrahedron – a solid with 4 faces Face – individual surfaces of a solid shape Vertex – a point where 2 or more lines meet (corner) Vertices – the plural of vertex is vertices Edge – a line which joins 2 vertices Plan – a drawing of an object as viewed from above (birds-eye view). Elevation – a drawing of an object from the front or side. Isometric drawing – a 2D representation of a solid Net - A pattern that you can cut and fold to make a model of a solid shape.
