3. Character of Those in the Lord’s Kingdom
Poor in spirit – humble, low estimation of self
Mourn – sorrow over sins committed
Meek – patience during trials; persevere
Hunger & Thirst after righteousness – strong desire to be right in God’s sight
Merciful – desire to alleviate the suffering of others
Pure in Heart – minds, motives, & principles are pure
Peacemakers – strive to prevent contention & strife

4. Irony
Persecuted for righteousness’ sake, yet we are the hope of those who persecute us (5:11-16).
Don’t let persecutions keep you from letting your light shine!
Our goal is to be saved and save those who persecute us.

5. Christ’s Relation to the Law
Luke 24
44 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.“
Romans 10
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

6. Christ’s Law Reaches the Heart
Control murder by controlling the heart
Control adultery by ridding heart of lust
Divorce forbidden except for immorality
Be honest with everyone
Don’t return evil for evil
Love your enemies; do good to them

7. Recognize Dependence On God
Seek reward for good from the Father
God’s blessings sustain us, be thankful
Trust God for all you needs, He can and will provide for those who put Him first

8. Treatment of Others Hypocritical judging forbidden
Make petitions to God and accept His answers
Treat others as you wish to be treated

9. Only Two Ways Do not be led off the narrow way by false prophets
Narrow way is found by doing God’s will
Not enough to hear, must also do what God teaches

10. Are You in the Kingdom? Be Wise – Hear & Do!
Believe in Jesus – John 8:24
Confess your faith in Him – Rom. 10:10
Repent of your sins – Lk. 13:3
Be baptized for the remission of sins - Acts 2:38
