By the end of the session participants will be able to: Identify the 3 different types of games – Fun Games, Modified Games and Full Games Identify key factors which can be altered to modify a game Organise a game appropriate to Children, Youths or Adults An Introduction to Games

4 How can Games be used in Coaching?
Warm Ups Skill Development Developing playing positional skills Practicing puck outs, free pucks, 65’s Other reasons? Introduce the concept that a Game need not involve 15 Vs 15, with winning as the outcome. Identify that certain types of games can be very useful for warm ups, or skill development An Introduction to Games

10 What are these players thinking?
‘I wonder will the ball ever come up again’? ‘I don’t think so’ ‘What a lovely day mister’ What are these players thinking? Can be used as a task, or simply to generate discussion. Tutor to tease out relevance of 15-a-side to young players as per previous slide. Should games up to u.12 be small sided and skill development focussed rather than result orientated? 11 How can we Modify Games? S - Space T – Time/Task E – Equipment
P – Personnel Discuss How do we modify a Game? Know the PURPOSE of the Modification first: Conditions on the Game can be used to emphasise: Use of space – creating space Support on ball Execution of skills under pressure Team Play Discipline Movement Manipulate the following to help condition the games S – space Use the full pitch or limit playing area Do you use zones to limit movement, offset ‘bee hive play’? T – time Playing Time allowed to complete the task Children need more rest time – they run out of energy quickly Time can be used to increase intensity/work on physical fitness T – task Introduce rules to focus on specific skills or Introduce rules to focus on the job of specific players E – equipment Modified playing equipment? Go Games footballs? Size of goal? Additional ‘wide’ posts as in Australian Rules? P -personnel Playing numbers 15/13/11/9/7 a side Equal playing numbers or overload one team? 15 V 15, or 11 V 9 etc An Introduction to Games
