2 Health. Definition. Scientists in the past defined HEALTH simply as "an absence of disease or illness”. If you were not physically sick, you were considered healthy. Today there are 6 areas of HEALTH.

4 What is Wellness? It is the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.

Being the best we can in every area of our HEALTH makes up our well-being, also known as our WELLNESS.

6 Physical Health

7 Physical Health “Physical health” is everything that has to do with our bodies. It includes personal attention to and maintenance of overall health through nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and positive healthy habits.

9 Emotional Health

10 Emotional Health Emotionally healthy people feel safe and secure with their own emotions and feelings. They express emotions in positive, nondestructive ways. They are assertive about their needs. They are able to cope with unpleasant emotions in healthy ways. They have a better chance of having a healthy self- esteem.

11 Social Health Social health refers to the relationships you have in your life with family and friends and the kinds of support that you receive from them. Socially healthy people respect others and avoid those who don’t treat them with respect and tolerance.

14 Mental Health A mentally healthy person:
realizes his or her own abilities copes with the normal stresses of daily life works productively has fulfilling relationships with others adapts to change and copes with adversity.

15 Your mental health can be greatly influenced by your emotional health.
It may be difficult to see when a person has a mental health issue. Changes in mental health behavior are sometimes attributed to other causes.

16 Spiritual Health

17 Spiritual Health “Spiritual health” is a personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose for our lives. The basis of spirituality is discovering a sense of meaning in your life and coming to know that you have a purpose to fulfill.

20 Environmental Health Environment = your surroundings, the area where you live, and all the things you have contact with (air, water, land). “Environmental health” is the awareness of protecting both the natural and built environments for the benefit of human health.
