2 Chapter 10 5 years have passed since Amir’s 13th Birthday Party

3 Chapter 11 Chapter 11: the story jumps forward in time. Baba and Amir are in Fremont, California, where they have lived for nearly two years. The audience is introduced to Mr. Nguyen, a convenience store owner in Fremont. Baba is angered by Mr. Nguyen when he asks for Baba’s ID.

4 Chapter 12 Amir is stressing that the people of Afghanistan trusted each other. Although they have a dispute in the store, Mr. Nguyen and Baba share a common ground being immigrants from war-torn countries who immigrated to the U.S. Amir wants to pursue English. Baba is so concerned about Amir’s desire to study English because he fears for Amir’s earning power with that degree.

5 Chapter 12 Dramatic Irony: Baba gives Amir the sage revelation that, “That’s what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime.” Think about how the decision that Amir made the evening of the kite tournament. (EQ) How has it influenced his destiny and the destiny of others? Although Baba does not know it, he summed up Amir’s heartache over Hassan’s friendship. Amir meets Soraya at while he and Baba are working at the flea market. Soraya has to admit her love affair from her 18th year; this is humiliating for her. Amir envies that she told him this humiliating story because he wishes he no longer had his shameful secret of abandoning Hassan. Baba seems to change during his last days. One would characterize his last days with Amir and Soraya as peaceful, cooperative and loving.

7 Chapter 13 Amir and soraya have a short engagement and are married
Baba seems to change during his last days. One would characterize his last days with Amir and Soraya as peaceful, cooperative and loving.

8 Chapter 14 Chapter 14 begins, chronologically speaking, where Chapter 1 left off. Hosseini uses a flashback in chapters 2-13 to illustrate the events of Amir’s life that have lead to this point in 2001.

9 Chapter 15 Amir is traveling to Kabul to grant Rahim Khan his dying wish. Amir lands in Peshawar, Pakistan- he cannot travel directly to Kabul Rahim khan is dying He tells amir about hassan and says, “I brought you here because I am going to ask something of you.”
