3 Plan for Week of May 25: Plan for Week of June 1:
Tuesday-Friday: Complete Functions Webquest Plan for Week of June 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: No Math Class (Mrs. Stewart out of town). Complete Unit 6, Lessons 1, 2, 3 Unit 6 lessons do not have to be mastered but you must try 3 times if you don’t master Thursday and Friday: Complete all work for Math. All work is due Friday, June 5 at midnight

4 Your Mission (Yes, you must accept it):
Read the instructions on each slide for each task Watch the videos Answer all of the questions on the Word Document Save the document to your computer and attach it to a kmail to send back to me You may move to the main room at any time if you need help or have questions. 

5 Project: Introduction to Relations and Functions
Description: This WebQuest will address different aspects of Relations and Functions. Upon completion, students will be able to: Define a function and a relation Identify the domain and range of a function Determine whether or not a function is represented when analyzing tables, graphs, and coordinates Evaluate a function Interpret graphs of a function and make predictions

6 Task 1: Answer these questions on your
Word Document After watching the videos, answer these questions on your Word Document Explain the easiest way to see if a relation represents a function What is the definition of a relation? Write 2 examples of a relation. What is the domain of a set or an ordered pair? What is the range? What is the definition of a function? Explain the vertical line rule Explain how you would apply the vertical line rule to different function graphs Explain how you would apply the vertical line rule to the function graph on the worksheet

7 Task 2: Complete these tasks on your
Word Document Create a set of values that would be an example of a function. Do this in TABLE FORM. Explain why it is a function. 2. Create an example of a set of values that would NOT be an example of a function. Do this by making a list of the ORDERED PAIRS. (Must have at least 5 ordered pairs). Explain why it is not a function.

8 Task 3: Answer these Questions on your
Word Document Explain what is meant by function notation. Give 3 examples of an equation written in function notation 2. Explain what it means to evaluate a function.

9 Task 4: Evaluate each function on the Work Document Show your work
1. f(x) = 2x Evaluate f(2)  2. f(x) = 3x Evaluate f(a + 1)  3. f(x) = 3x – 1 and g(x) = 5x + 3 Evaluate f(2) + g(3)  4. h(x) = x2 + 3x – 1 Evaluate h(-3)  5. f(x) = x3 +5x Evaluate f(9) 6. f(x) = -4x - 3 Evaluate f(-10)    7. f(x) = x3 + 7x2 + 1 Evaluate f(0)

10 This graph show the height of a balloon over a period of minutes
Task 5: Answer these questions on your Word Document Applications of Functions This graph show the height of a balloon over a period of minutes What was the highest height the balloon reached? How many minutes did it take to reach the highest height? What could explain what happened to the balloon between minutes 25 and 35? During what time period did the balloon descend? What happened at minute 60? Graph 1

11 Task 5: Answer these questions on your Word Document Applications of Functions
This graph shows the inches of water in a bathtub over a period of minutes How much water was in the tub to start? For how many total minutes was the water level decreasing? the water level increasing? the water level unchanging? What do you predict is the maximum capacity of the bathtub? Explain your reasoning. Graph 2

12 Task 5: Answer these questions on your Word Document Applications of Functions
Graph 3 Describe the trend that you see here, with Facebook’s stock price Do a Google search: what does IPO stand for and what does it mean? What do you think happened to Facebook stock price from September to December? Explain why you think that.

13 Go back and double check ALL of your work
When you are finished: Go back and double check ALL of your work Webquest is due Friday, June points Be sure you have answered all of the questions on the Word Document Save the document to your computer and attach it to a kmail to send back to Mrs. Stewart Put “Functions Webquest” in the Subject Line
