Case Study: Interior Elevation

Case Study: Transfer from 3D to 2D

Case Study: Reception Desk Front Elevation Finished Version

Case Study: Reception Desk

The Basic Steps – 3D to 2D CAD 1) import / export 3D model 2) set up layout tab a. scale (real scale) b. hidden line c. DXB plotter 3) plot to file 4) import single exported files into a sheet 5) edit / clean up 6) arrange & set line properties 7) export / plot final drawings

Case Study Demonstration: Line Weights – CAD Extraction

Case Study Demonstration: Line Weights – Editing Extracted Raster Content

Editing Extracted Drawings – Line Weights 2 Primary Methodologies in AutoCad By Entity Good for singular visual adjustments Does not interfere with other layer management By Layer Great for visually managing large data sets Easy and intuitive when assigning line weights

Editing Extracted Drawings – Line Weights – Plot Style Tables Plot Style Tables – Overrides for Vector Content.ctb – Color Based Plot Style Table Primarily an entity-based methodology The color of the entity determines the line properties Heavy set-up to use.stb – Name Based Plot Style Table Primarily a layer-based methodology The assigned plot style determines the line properties Easy to set-up and use Plot Style Tables are included in the template when creating a new file – these are difficult to change after the drawing file has been created

Editing Extracted Drawings – Line Weights: Setting Up a Name Based Plot Style Table

Setting Up A Name Based Plot Style Table 1) In the Page Setup Manager for the layout, under Pen Assignments – Select New from the drop-down list 2) Start from Scratch and give it a name 3) Click on the Plot Style Table Editor and go to the Form View tab 4) Add four or five different styles – typical styles are.18mm,.35mm,.50mm,.70mm, and a grey screened line a) Each style has its own override for all line properties. Typically, set black for the color and match the line weight to the name of the style. 5) Assign the plot styles you created to the Plot Style column in the layer manager 6) Assign the layers to the objects

Editing Extracted Drawings – Raster Images Raster Image: A Pixel Based Image File A rectilinear grid of picture elements – each having its own color Changing the size of a pixel-based image affects the size / arrangement of the rectilinear grid, thus usually destroying its fidelity Raster images are measured by actual pixel dimensions and in Pixels Per Inch Computer monitors and television screens can only display a finite number of pixels per inch Printers can only print a finite number of pixels per inch

The Effects of Resizing a Raster Image Original: 30 Pixels X 30 Pixels Resized Image: no Resampling Resampled Image: 216 Pixels X 216 Pixels

Plotting to Raster from AutoCAD Plotting to Raster File allows line weight to be baked onto the image Plotting allows use of layout features Requires a basic understanding of resolution Requires a separate layout for each level of resolution

Setting Up: Plotting to a Raster File
