Parallel Structure having like grammatical parts joined together.
w/ coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS) must always use the same grammatical elements (, , and ) parallel (, , or ○) not parallel The man was old, lonely, and miserly. parallel = adjective , adjective , and adjective . The man was old , lonely, and a miser. not parallel = adjective , adjective , and noun ○ Example 1

Parallel Structure Be aware of combining the following:
infinitives, participial phrases, and subordinate clauses action verbs with linking verbs infinitives and gerunds

Practice Identify the like and unlike parts using symbols (, O, ∆)
1. The model learned to speak well, to walk, and applying makeup correctly. 2. He was a professional baseball player and also played the violin. 3. Telling your intentions and to carry them out are two different matters. 4. I liked to swim, to fish, and to hike.
