Stax Records Stax Records was a company created by a brother and sister and merging both last names, James Stewart and Estelle Axton, They came up with their name. Both of them were white however. One of the members of the team, Otis Redding sadly passed away so They needed to take on a new partner and found the perfect candidate to be Al Bell. He was black. The company then played a big part in helping the civil rights act in the 60s, 70s and 80s. They recorded R&B But it was much grittier and way more soulful than most of the other northern lables.
