Yearbooks and End of Year Balances What’s Happening in First Grade
First Grade Newsletter For the Week of May 29 – June 1, 2018 Upcoming Dates 6/1 – Spirit Day – Beach Day 6/5 – Field Day 8:30 – 10:30 am – families are welcome to attend. Reminders Lunch Schedules will change during End of Year Testing this week on 5/30 and 5/31. Contact your child’s teacher for the times if you plan to come in for lunch on those days. Yearbooks and End of Year Balances Strawbridge payment envelopes and flyers for yearbooks will go home this week. Students will be allowed to look at their yearbook but will not be able to take it home until payment is made. If a student owes money from other school items (lost books, pictures, etc.) even if the money is sent in for the yearbook, they will not be sent home until all outstanding balances are paid. Please be sure to return the envelope with payment or payment information if it is online. There is a place to write the online confirmation code on the envelope. What’s Happening in First Grade Spanish Phrase of the Week is: Pensador (masculine) and Pensadora (feminine) which means thinker. Inquiry into Math: Review of math strategies taught throughout the year and review of Benchmark Assessment questions. Inquiry into Literacy: ELA –Letterland Unit 31 Students will learn the sound-alike spellings ir, ur and er in words. This will be the last spelling test we will give students for the year. Writer’s Workshop/Comprehension Strategies: Review of writing strategies taught through out the year. Inquiry into Science and Social Studies: Finish up the unit on Animals, explore Memorial Day and symbols of the United States. PYP Learner Profile for June is Thinker: I think about my work and I think about how to do my best work. I solve problems and make good decisions. Dioramas Thank you parents for helping the first graders with their animal habitat projects. The students had a great time showing them off to each other, explaining what they did and answering questions. This week, the kindergarten classes will be visiting the first graders to see what they did. The older students will be coming to visit as soon as EOGs are done.
