Step 1 Identify the verb in the sentence.
The young man sweeps the floor. Notice that the verb has an s in the ending. The s immediately tells you that the verb is in the present tense. This means that the question will be formed using the auxiliary does.
4
Step 2 Form the yes/no question
The young man sweeps the floor. Does the young man sweep the floor? Notice that the auxiliary verb is placed at the beginning of the sentence. 2. This is a one word verb so you need to add the auxiliary. Because you used the auxiliary verb does, the verb has to be changed to the basic form.
5
Step 3 Forming a question whose answer is in the subject.
The young man sweeps the floor. Who sweeps the floor? The young man is the subject of the sentence. This will be your answer. Notice that the verbs maintains its form. It doesn’t change. We use who when the subject is a person.
6
Step 4 Let’s form the information question
Step 4 Let’s form the information question. Now the answer will be in the predicate. The young man sweeps the floor. What does the young man sweep? The floor is a thing. We use the question word what. Notice that the question word is always followed by the auxiliary verb. The verb is in the basic form because you used the auxiliary verb does.

8
Let’s form a question whose answer is in the subject.
Alejandra has left early. Alejandra is a person so we use the question word who. The verb will remain in its same form. Who has left early?
9
Let’s form a question whose answer is in the predicate
Alejandra has left early. When has Alejandra left? Early refers to time so we will use when. Notice that the question word is always followed by the auxiliary verb. We use the past participle because the verb is in the present perfect tense.
