WELCOME, Y’ALL!!! Happy Monday!

Ms. Verbeck A quick overview

The burning questions, though...
Policies are staying the same-- turn in trays are up front, extra pencils, pens, and paper are available for emergencies, and I’ve got other stuff if you need it, too. PLEASE keep cubbies on desks facing inward. ASK IF YOU DON’T KNOW. Any questions about how things will go from now through May in my classroom?

But there is ONE major change: Google Classroom is a BIG thing now.
Codes for each class: A-2: xgold9l A-3: 8eccvq A-4: nd7n3f3 B-2: jmyjoqa B-3: ja6tk0p EVERYTHING will be on Google Classroom. Assignments, daily PowerPoints, announcements, etc. You will need to check it at least once every other day from now on.

About Me I have a son named Fox. Yes, that’s his real name. He’s six. And totally rad. I enjoy reading more than almost anything else (except traveling). My idea of heaven is some tea or coffee, a thick fuzzy blanket, my three chihuahuas curled up next to me, and a good book. I LOVE to binge streaming media (movies and TV shows) and YouTube. I have published a (terrible) novel. I like to sing, play guitar, and write songs. I’m also a reallllly bad dancer, but I got super into it for fun, and I just love to do it. I mainly know Salsa, Country Western, and West Coast Swing. I can’t cook to save my life, but somehow, I can make an amazing pie. It takes a full day to do, but I’ve recently learned that I can do this, and I am super proud of myself.

Professional Background
I’ve taught all levels (freshmen through seniors) at Denton Guyer and Reedy High School in Frisco. I’ve taught on-level Juniors and Seniors, AP Language and Composition, GT Humanities, and dual credit Composition classes. I have my master’s degree in English. I’ve worked for a test prep company that prepares students for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT (test you take to get into medical school). I’ve taught private SAT prep courses. All this to say that I LOVE students and working in education at the high school level. :)

Now… I want to know about you.
Get out a sheet of paper. On it, write your name. If you go by anything other than what’s on my roster, please draw my attention to that fact.

List these things, in order:
What extracurriculars you are involved in at school or in the community, if any. What you would do with an entire weekend if you had unlimited money, access to a private pilot, and nothing was off-limits. What makes you happiest (or, if you’ve never done this thing, what do you THINK would make you happiest)? What your plan is after you graduate. This can be short-term, or long term. Your favorite movie or TV show, favorite current song, or favorite interest-- Sports? Knitting? Video games? Blogging? Traveling? Fashion? I don’t know! You tell me. Something you are really proud of about yourself. This has to be a skill, an achievement, or something people know you for. RULE: you can’t talk about other people (for example, no “I’m proud of my family” or “I’m proud to be a Falcon”) This has to be about you. Anything else you want me to know about you that will help me get to know you as a person and connect with you. This can be personal, like “I have ten brothers and sisters,” or it can relate to the classroom, like “I have a phobia of reading out loud.”

Let’s share some stuff! MAKE SURE YOU TURN YOUR PAPER IN TO ME BEFORE YOU LEAVE! I CARE.
