1 Infrared Home Controller

2 Home Automation Current state
Our “smart” devices become dumb as they get older (TV’s) Dumb security on these devices What if all devices in our homes were controlled by one smart device? This smart device would then be the control for all of the devices that are connected Many of these devices in our homes are controllable via IR TV, DVD player, and most other things connected to a TV Devices that are not IR controlled are usually Radio Frequency controlled

3 Low Cost Alternative A phone could be the smart hub
High cost IR blasters are starting to phase out of the smartphone market This project can provide the functionality of the IR blaster on high-end phones to other users With low additional cost Raspberry Pi $30 IR emitter $5 IR receiver $1 Transistors $5

4 LIRC Raspberry PI using a free software, LIRC (Linux InfraRed Controller). LIRC has a not so user friendly interface (command line) Must know linux commands Set it up once Meant to have software built on top of it Implement a web and android interface to interact with LIRC The problem is to build the project in a way to support two very different user interfaces that interact with the same software.

5 How it works

6 RESTful Advantage Client agnostic- the service is easily accessible from any device that can use web protocol The clients don't need to know anything about the server or how it works

7 Demo

8 Future work Android/iOS app Radio Frequency Remote cloning
Remote detection
