BR314

Bell Ringer( ) Question: If outer space has empty space then how can we see the light waves here on earth from the sun?

Answer: Light waves are electromagnetic
Answer: Light waves are electromagnetic. Electromagnetic waves do not require a medium to travel from its source to us.

Exit Slip ( ) Question: Can light change direction? Explain; use an example.

Bell Ringer( ) Jack throws a rock into the center of a pond. This causes a large ripple to go hit the bank. Question: Did the ripple carry the water molecules from the center to the ponds edge?

Answer: No, waves don’t carry particles they carry energy.

Exit Slip ( ) Jonny jumped off the diving board and made a big splash. The wave carried all the way to the pools edge. Question: Did the water molecules move from the center to the pools edge?

Bell Ringer( ) Question: What is our new learning target?

Answer: I can categorize a wave as mechanical or electromagnetic.

Exit Slip ( ) Directions: Diagram the following. Light from a flashlight bouncing off of a mirror.

Bell Ringer( ) Question: If you were to increase the amplitude for a light wave, how would we perceive the change? (Hint: sound would be volume)

Answer: We would see an increase in intensity

Exit Slip ( ) Question: How do we perceive a change in frequency of a light wave? (Hint: Sound would be pitch)

Bell Ringer( ) Question: If you were to increase the amplitude for a sound wave, how would we perceive the change? (Hint: light is brightness)

Answer: We would see an increase in volume

Exit Slip ( ) Question: How do we perceive a change in frequency of a sound wave? (Hint: Light would be color)
