2 Heading and Title Heading Name Title - You need a creative title Date
Critical Book Review Word Count Title - You need a creative title

3 Necessary Info The title of the book is The 7 Habits of Effective Teens no contractions don't use "in this world," "in this time," "in this society" Don't just talk about a concept from the book without explaining the concept. Ex: Win-Win *****IGNORE MY CORRECTIONS AND EDITING COMMENTS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

4 THE FINAL Turn the paper in from first to last in this order
1st: Final draft 2nd: Rough draft that I edited 3rd: Final Outline 4th: Any Preliminary outlines 5th: Brainstorm *** You will lose points for any part that is missing. Writing is a process. I want to see your entire process and I want YOU to see the process!

5 Integrating Quotes into Your Paper
*****A quotation CANNOT stand alone as a sentence; it must be introduce. It must be put in context - one sentence that explains what is happening in the book or why the quote is important.

6 Wrong ways to put a quote in context
Page Number: On page 47, it says, ". . . " Chapter Number: In chapter 23, it says, " " Only a person's name: Harriet Smith said, "..." or Covey quotes Harriet Smith, who said, ". . . "

7 Correct Integration of a quote
Comma Format - includes the speaker (who the speaker is if necessary) and a signal phrase (wrote, explained, illustrates, contrasts, conveys, clarifies, etc), followed by a comma Ex: In explaining the source of wisdom, Solomon wrote, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Pro. 9:10a).

8 Blended format - includes the speaker, a signal word, and the word THAT (NO COMMA)
Ex: The Apostle John explained that "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

9 Colon Format - quote introduced by a COMPLETE SENTENCE followed by a colon
Ex: Paul clarified the message of the gospel to the Corinthians: "I make known to you. . . the gospel that Christ died for our sins. . . and that He was raised on the third day"(I Cor. 15:1-4).
