Why are faculty striking on Tuesday, Jan. 22?
To protect the quality of your Wright State education On January 4 the WSU administration imposed a contract on full-time faculty, refusing to negotiate with faculty. Striking is now the ONLY way faculty can reject the imposed contract. This imposed contract means faculty don’t have a voice in major university decisions. Instead, Trustees Bridges and Fecher, people who oversaw financial decisions that nearly destroyed the university, make the decisions. The imposed contract allows administration to increase teaching load for the faculty. Increased teaching loads mean much less time for individualized attention and assistance. This isn’t about faculty seeking raises. The imposed contract amounts to a actual pay cut of up to 20%. It forces on us a healthcare plan that increases the burden on the sickest and lowest paid faculty. Full-time faculty salary and benefits cost only 17 cents of every tuition dollar. At the same time Board of Trustees is using your tuition money to pay $500,000 for their lawyer and another $1 million penalty for their illegal activities. If they need a lawyer, shouldn't they pay for him themselves?

Message to students Attendance is no more mandatory for next Tuesday class than any other in the semester. Faculty are required to report at the end of semester whether a student was legitimate or not, or whether they rarely if ever showed up. Only if a faculty member reports that the student took no part in the class is the financial aid of that student at risk. Most of your financial aid goes to WSU for tuition. They have no interest in having your financial aid pulled. If a replacement teacher is in your classroom beginning on Tuesday, ask immediately for their qualifications. If you feel you are getting less education than you paid for, express your outrage to You may also contact the Higher Learning Commission (accrediting body that assesses Wright State) at (800) or (312) We are disseminating info through our website ( and FB (AAUP Wright State University).
