Moving Faster, Slower, Up and Down You need: A pencil, erasers, scissors and your Science duo-tang
2
Get Started As a plane travels through the air…
What makes it changes directions? How does it turn? How does it climb or dive? How does it slow down or speed up?
3
Work On It Follow the instructions to build the Express Flyer
Please follow the instructions exactly as we need uniformity in design to compare results and adjustments fairly
4
Work On It What adjustments do you have to make to change the glider’s path? How did the adjustments you made affect the flight of your glider? Why do you think they have this affect?
5
Communicate Complete Communicate questions 1 and 2 on page 25
6
Build on What You Know Summarize how you would make the E-Fly turn left, turn right, and do a loop. Add any other flying tips that made the glider fly better.
7
Anything on your gliders that cause drag can change the direction of flight. Adjusting flaps on the wings will allow you to control flight patterns. Raising both flaps on the wings will force the rear of the plane down and into a climbing angle…
8
By raising the flaps enough, the plane will continue to climb until it flips over, completing a loop. Raising a flap on one wing only will cause the plane to turn in the same direction.
