A randomized, controlled trial compared per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and pneumatic dilatation in therapy-naïve achalasia patients. There was significantly higher 1-year therapeutic success rate in the group treated with POEM compared with pneumatic dilatation, with reflux esophagitis occurring much more frequently with POEM.
