1 Diffusion Lab Notes A. Color of starch:________________
starch is made of _______________ molecules. B. Color of iodine:________________ iodine is made of ____________ molecules. Cloudy/white Polysaccharide/large Amber/orange/brownish small

2 Choices for Hypothesis:
1. Iodine will leave the cup and enter the bag. 2. Starch will leave the bag and enter the cup. Starch and iodine will change places. 4. There will be no movement of molecules. **** What happens when starch and iodine come in contact?

3 Accountability!!! Draw beaker Draw bag
Draw and label ONE starch molecule Draw and label ONE iodine molecule Add starch molecules and iodine molecules to your drawing (as they would have been right when you put the bag into the beaker.

4 No talking for this part!
Person #2, draw one arrow from one molecule showing the direction you think it was moving during note taking. 2. The rest of the people at the table need to indicate (without talking) if they agree. 3. One everyone agrees, pass the marker to the next person and they do steps 1 and 2. 4. Continue this until there have been arrows added to 10 starch molecules AND 10 iodine molecules.

5 Explain your arrows! SC: Students will use evidence to explain how particles moved during the diffusion lab. Each person at the table will verbally explain how arrows show molecule movement. Give evidence that supports the way your arrows point! The group will decide what they like best and write an explanation of how their drawing shows what happened in the lab. Each person write a sentence. Don’t forget to provide evidence!

6 Carousel! SC: Students will use evidence to explain how particles moved during the diffusion lab.
Take your post it notes and, when I tell you to, move to each table. Taking turns Leave a question OR Leave a comment about something you liked! Be specific!

7 Review! What do we know about starch & iodine molecules.
Did starch move through the membrane? Evidence? Did iodine move through the membrane? Evidence?

8 Make corrections to your poster.
Worksheet: Rally table with your shoulder partner. A’s start. Tell your partner the answer to number 1 verbally. Once you agree, both write it down. B’s do the same for #2. Take turns through #16. Write the paragraph on your own.
