In 1942, Japanese attacked the Philippine Islands.
Americans surrendered to the Japanese. Japanese forced Allied POWs to march 50 miles to a POW camp.

Approx. 16,000 Allied soldiers died during the Bataan Death March.

Battle of Coral Sea (May 1942)
Turning point Victory for the Allies. Weakened Japanese fleet. Stopped Japan’s advances southward.

Battle of Midway (June 1942)
Turning point Victory for the Allies. Turned the tide of war in the Pacific. Japan was now on the defensive.
