Teachers need to use formative assessment during teaching to understand student’s specific needs
Assignment 3 will help you practice, before you complete the edTPA “for real” in student teaching

3rd grade class
Teacher completed running records
Data showed 4 students who are still learning diphthong /oi/
FE3 candidate developed a short re-engagement mini-lesson on diphthongs
Used a formative assessment to determine student learning (each student read two sentences that contained several /oi/)

FE3 candidate designed a short re-engagement mini- lesson for these students:

Used a formative assessment (exit slip) at the end to gauge student learning. Students completed one problem independently

18. FIRST STEP: TALK WITH CT TO DETERMINE PLAN OF ACTION
Explain the assignment to the CT in visit 3 or 4
You should reread the assignment in the syllabus BEFORE talking to your CT
Then, look at the checklist with your CT
Some CTs say they “do not do” small group instruction. In that case, reach out to your supervisor. We have a solution!!
If you are having difficulties, your supervisor.
By visit 5, you should be making plans for this assignment so you can complete it in visit 6-10

Use data used to identify which students needed re- teaching and to analyze error patterns
Plan explicit re-teaching that includes I do, We do, You do in a short (10-15 minute) lesson
Develop a quick formative assessment to collect information in the “you do” phase

Follow directions in the syllabus for responding to the prompt in the edTPA handbook
Please look at those before teaching the lesson, so you know what you will need to address after teaching the lesson
(remember edTPA handbook will state this needs to be math related; but in fieldwork any content area is fine)
