2 Fig 1 Positions (A) 1 and (B) 2 of the PIT. Position 1, subject lies relaxed in prone position on an examination table with the trunk supported, hips flexed over the edge of the table, and feet positioned on the floor or stool. The first passive PA pressure is applied over each lumbar vertebra. Position 2, the subject is instructed to lift legs 2 inches off the ground to activate the lumbar paraspinal muscles while holding on to the table. The second PA is repeated over each lumbar vertebra at which LBP symptoms were produced in position 1.
