1 ISN PAGE 92-93 Cells Mon TOPIC: MY GOAL: Get On Task I will differentiate between plant & animal cells PICK UP Daily Formative at table ATTACH to INS p.92 COMPLETE NOW using ISN p.90 for help

2 Cell Structure REVIEW: Cell Organelles NOTES: Organelles, Surface Area
WORKSHEETS: Cell Types ISN p.94-95

3 #1. Organelles A Few NOTES on ISN p. 93 A) CILIA vs FLAGELLA
short long many fewer Eukaryotic cells Eu & Prokaryotes Cilia on Protist Respiratory Cilia in Lung Epithelium The cilia are bathed in nasal mucus.  The mucus moisturizes the air but also, like fly paper, filters dust , pollen, chemicals, bacteria and viruses that enter our nose as we breath. The cilia are always refreshing the mucus coating of the nose.  In coordinated waves, they sweep a layer of mucus to the back of the nose every 5-8 minutes.  The mucus then slips into the throat where it is swallowed, rather than inhaled into the lungs.  The acid of the stomach destroys the harmful nasal debris.

4 C) MicroFilaments vs MicroTubules
B) CytoSkeleton- provides structure to cell connects to every part of CM & organelles C) MicroFilaments vs MicroTubules Smaller Larger Under CM Throughout cell Contraction of cells (cytokinesis) Scaffold BOTH allow cell to hold shape, & move itself its organelles.

5 #2. Surface Area… NOTES, cont. on ISN p. 93 Mitochondria Chloroplast
Endoplasmic Reticulum

6 PLANT CELL vs Animal Cell
PROKaryotic Cells vs EUKaryotic Cells and PLANT CELL vs Animal Cell ATTACH packet page 5 & 6 to ISN pages 94 & 95 COMPLETE REVIEW with neighbor

7 Questions to think about…
Stop Think And Review Questions to think about… Do plant cells have a cell wall? Do animal cells have a cell wall? Do plant cells have a cell membrane? Do animal cells have a cell membrane? Do plant cells have chloroplasts? Do animal cells have chloroplasts? Do plant cells have mitochondria? Do animal cells have mitochondria? Do plant cells have a large vacuole for support? Do animal cells have a large vacuole for support? 7

8 Similarities & Differences
PROkaryotic vs EUkaryotic Cells Similarities & Differences DNA, Cytoplasm, Membrane, Ribosomes NUCLEUS, Complexity 94 Cytoplasm Golgi Body C.Membrane N.Membrane C.Wall NUCLEUS DNA ER Ribosomes Mitochondria

9 Similarities & Differences
Plant Cell vs Animal Cell Similarities & Differences Nucleus & C.Membrane & Organelles (except Chloroplast) No C.Wall, No Chloroplast, Vacuole size, Shape 95 Vacuole ER Chloroplast Nucleus C.Wall Mitochondria C.Membrane ER Mitochondria Cytoplasm Vacuole Chloroplast Cytoplasm

10 Work out a pathway form the Nucleus to the Cell Membrane that would keep Protein from ever entering the Cytoplasm Nucleus to ER Vesicle Golgi Cell Membrane

11 Stop Think And Reflect Cell wall…… DNA………… ER…………… Chloroplast..
Protective outer covering of a plant, fungus, or bacterial cell Contains genetic instructions Transport channels Used for photosynthesis Jelly-like substance where chemical reactions take place Helps to maintain homeostasis in cells; outside of animal cells Make proteins Coverts energy in food to usable energy Control center of cell Packaging area of cell Contains enzymes Cell wall…… DNA………… ER…………… Chloroplast.. Cytoplasm…. Cell membrane... Ribosomes…. Mitochondrion.. Nucleus…….. Golgi body… Lysosome…
