2. Mass Mass is the amount of matter that something is made up of.
The SI unit for mass is the gram.
The triple beam balance is the instrument used to measure mass.

3. HOW TO USE A TRIPLE BEAM BALANCE
1. First find the weight on the rail marked in 100’s.

4. 2. Then find the weight marked in 10’s.

5. 3. Find the weight marked in 1’s.
If it falls between the numbers on the 1’s, they are tenths (1/10) of one gram.
Those small marks are recorded as decimals. For example, 3.3 grams (g).

6. Add all these numbers together.
