Dear Parents,
In Kindergarten, your child is participating in “Writing Workshop” everyday. During Writer’s Workshop, your child is becoming an Author and Illustrator of many different types of writing. Our goal is to teach your child to LOVE to write. We will be sending home many of the items that your child writes throughout the year and We will also be keeping some for our records. When you see these pieces of writing, please allow your child to share them with you. They will be very excited to share the things we are learning. Please do not have your child fix all of the misspelled words or errors. We practice “kindergarten spelling”. When students spell words, they stretch the word and listen to the sounds they hear. They only write the sounds they hear in the word. For example, the word road will be spelled rod. If your child can spell the word correctly independently, please encourage them to do so. Also, encourage them to spell sight word correctly.
Learning to write is a difficult process and we will do our best to make it fun. We will be having small “celebrations” throughout the year to help keep us motivated!
