How we are changing our approach to communities @ Norwich City Council
Kate Price – Community enabling manager
2
Who am I to be talking to you?
(The question mark is deliberate! I’m going to bore you a little about my background)
3
So what do we mean by enabling?
This City (or district!) is best placed to know what is best for its residents, and to deliver world class services to improve and support people The landscape is very different with limited funding and more demand on both local councils and VCSEs Our role as a council is to understand how to help VCSEs fulfil their own mission, rather than our own and do the aspects which are our responsibility in collaboration with the city
4
What are we doing to achieve that?
Looking internally at our own culture and processes and improving them - thinking differently Helping upskill VCSEs to look at sustainable models - thinking differently again To promote collaboration in all its guises – it’s all about sharing! Attract larger scale funding to the city in partnership for the benefit of VCSEs and residents – the city’s priorities, not ours Promoting the work of the voluntary and community sector along with the benefits of getting involved to residents
5
Where are we at in that journey?
At the internal phase – We’re getting our ducks in a row. Coming soon…! We’re reviewing our approach to CIL funds We’re piloting projects which we will bring to the VCSE sector for collaboration after initial trials for discussion and co-pro We’re applying for funding which will be supported by NCC but delivered (and paid to) VCSEs We’re continuing to run our networking and information sharing
6
What do you need from us? ? (That question mark is to ask for questions!)
