Terms Cornice: Upper section of an entablature, a projecting shelf along the top of a wall often supported by brackets or corbels. Lintel: A horizontal block that spans the space between two supports. Pilaster: A slightly-projecting column built into or applied to the face of a wall. Truss: A structure made up of one or more triangular units made from straight members of wood or metal which is used to support a structure, as in a roof or bridge. Baseboards: Boards placed at the intersection of walls and floors to protect the wall from damage. Casing: Trim around windows and doors.

Wainscot: a wall finish just on the bottom portion of the wall.
Mantel: Ornamental shelf or structure built above the fireplace. Newels: Large posts at the ends of railings and at landings. Balusters: Smaller posts between newels. Wall cabinets: Upper cabinets on walls. Toe space: Space under base cabinets so you can stand close to them Face frame: the thin boards around the front of the cabinet.
