1 Representation Who Am I?
I am usually unhappy because I am lonely. I wear old clothes that do not fit me, I have no money to buy clothes that fit me. I have a scruffy beard and hair, and I have not washed for awhile. I also smoke, which could be seen as a typical habit among my people; as well as drug taking and drinking.

I am very well dressed, clean, and smart. I am working on a computer at my desk, which is seen as a typical activity at work. I usually have a cup of coffee or tea, shiny shoes, smoking a cigarette, a briefcase or a satchel. Even though I’m good looking and rich, I am stressed out person, who doesn’t care about anything else outside his own little world, who has little care for anyone else.

How is a particular group of people (e.g., men, women, ethnic groups, etc.) portrayed/shown in your media text? To know which advertisement you will analyze and the conventions that are used in that advertisement. To understand how to identify an effective camera shot used in the advertisement. To be able to explain how the advertisement relates to media representation.

Use the questions on the essay assignment only as a guide. Identify which aspect of media representation do you want to focus on: gender, sexuality, status, ethnicity/race, ability, etc. Then give 2 or more examples from the advertisement. Conclusion: Explain how the audience will be attracted or repelled from this advertisement; summarize your main ideas.
