Scoring Achievement Elements
Year 1 : 20% for implementing the 5 Steps (Managing Health & Safety) for each element 1. Written standard 2. Communication 3. Training 4. Evaluate or have a plan to evaluate 5. Make improvements and/or acknowledge success 20% x 5 elements = 100% There are no partial marks or credit for an incomplete element Subsequent Years: Maintenance of elements = 25% 5 new completed elements x 15% = 75%

Year-End Reporting Requirements
Complete Year End Achievement Report by December 15, 2005 Complete Maintenance Report (if required) Complete Year End Workplace Assessment good preparation for 2006 Action Plan Reporting requires a YES or NO Avoid terms such as ‘In Progress’ & ‘Non-applicable’ Submit 2006 Firm Application Form Submit paperwork to HCHSA

Year-End Expectations
Completion of your 5 H&S Elements To achieve an element you must be able to demonstrate: A written standard for the element The means by which the element was communicated That you have provided the necessary training Evaluate or have a written plan to evaluate Make improvements and acknowledge success

New Year-End Maintenance Report
Maintaining Elements 1. Annual review of standards 2. Revisit communication and which elements need to be communicated again to staff 3. Train new, transferred or returning staff as required 4. Annual evaluation of elements - is it still working, are changes or improvements needed? New Year-End Maintenance Report Documentation!

Year-end “spot checks”
10% of workplaces selected Verification of year-end achievement report Conducted by WSIB Selected firms notified beginning of February 2006 “Spot Checks” occur from February to August 2006
