“I am BECOMING LIKE JESUS IN MY ATTITUDES, BEHAVIOURS, AND CHARACTER.”
“I am Learning to Love God and love others.”

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40)
4
When our life is “hung” upon loving God and loving others, our following of Jesus will be truer and less out of alignment with His purposes for us.
5
Jesus shows His love for God by His obedience.
“I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father.” (John 14:31) When we truly love God, we will demonstrate this love through our obedience. “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them”. (John 14:23)

Love for God comes to visible manifestation when we love others
Love for God comes to visible manifestation when we love others. Or you could say, our love for God is "fulfilled" when we love others. “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12). This is not a “chose your own adventure”; we don’t get to pick whether we love God or love others … we must keep both in full view!

“It was just before the Passover Festival
“It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him …”

(Peter protests) ”When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (John 13:1-5, 12-17)

Jesus showed love to others in this passage by washing their feet and serving them. By putting others before Himself, Jesus showed His love for them. The is the kind of love of others that we are to imitate is the kind of love that would wash the dirty, calloused feet of one’s betrayer. Jesus loved others most fully by loving God so completely that He manifested perfect obedience to Him.

“I am learning to love God and love others”.
This gives us both a direction and a destination – we are learning to love God and love others and, through the empowering of the Spirit, we will love God and love others in a Christ-like way. Are we a people who aim to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind? Are we willing to show sacrificial, servant-hearted love to each other, even if this means some sandpaper burns in doing so?
11
Two Questions How might I show love to God today? Who, specifically, is God directing me to show love to today?
12
Might we together be a people learning to love God and love others.
