2 Jesus’ Visit to Jerusalem – Luke 2:41-52
Mary’s response to Jesus: “Why have you treated us this way? Your father and I have been anxiously looking for you!” Spoken as a true mother! Think about it: Jesus 12 years in the flesh and 12 years without His Father. Could we possibly imagine what was going through the mind of Jesus the first time He came to the temple where they to worship His Father and teach and instruct His will? John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. John 6:38 For aI have come down from heaven, bnot to do My own will, but cthe will of Him who dsent Me. John 17:4-5 I glorified Thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which Thou hast given Me to do. 5 "And now, glorify Thou Me together with Thyself, Father, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was. John 19:28 After this, Jesus, aknowing that all things had already been accomplished, bto fulfill the Scripture, *said, "cI am thirsty."

3 Jesus’ Visit to Jerusalem – Luke 2:41-52
Jesus’ response: (His first recorded words) “Why were you looking for Me? Did you not know I had to be in My Fathers house?” Not just “why were you looking for Me?” but why not looking for Me in My Father’s house? “Did you not know …?” They did know, had they forgotten? Should they have known where to look? “My Father’s house” – about the things of My Father. His first words indicate His focus on accomplishing what His Father sent Him to do. John 4:34; 6:38; 17:4; 19:28 Jesus’ claim that God was His Father. His special relationship with His Father continued during His time on earth. Matthew 11:27; John 5:43; 8:19, 38; 14:7. Note His relationship with His Father’s house. John 2:13-17; cf. Matthew 23:38 Think about it: Jesus 12 years in the flesh and 12 years without His Father. Jesus continued in subjection to His parents. Jesus development and growth – “Kept increasing in …” Wisdom – intellectually (Proverbs 2:1-12) Stature – physically (1 Thessalonians 4:2-5) Favor with God – spiritually (1 Samuel 2:26; Psalms 119:58; Luke 1:30) Favor with man – socially (Daniel 1:9; Acts 2:47; Ephesians 4:25-32)
