4 Healthcare and Diversity
Principle 1 of the NHS Constitution ‘The NHS provides a comprehensive service, available to all irrespective of gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief. It has a duty to each and every individual that it serves and must respect their human rights. At the same time, it has a wider social duty to promote equality through the services it provides and to pay particular attention to groups or sections of society where improvements in health and life expectancy are not keeping pace with the rest of the population’.

5 Our Vision Wheel You and your care
To provide the best care for the people of Bradford, Airedale and Craven So that…. The Trust is recognised as one of the country’s leading providers of integrated community health care services Our vision puts ‘You and Your Care’ at the centre of everything we would like to achieve and sets out how we will deliver on four key aims: Top Quality of care Excellence in Patient Experience Great Relationships Good Value for money

6 BDCT Research - Mission Statement
To create a vibrant research culture in BDCT that supports high quality health research, reflecting the diversity of the local population and benefiting service users and communities. Goal 1: To increase our capacity and reputation for high quality research. Goal 2: To develop and undertake programmes of research that will deliver real benefit to patients and communities. Goal 3: To be at the forefront of evidence based innovative care and services. Goal 4: To establish governance that facilitates research and ensures safety of research participants.

7 Service user & carer involvement (XPLORE GROUP)
Strengths A growing R&D focus Forefront of offering services & therapies that meet the diverse needs of our population Partnership working Service user & carer involvement (XPLORE GROUP) What we have to offer NIHR: Provides a structure for research opportunities and delivery : As mentioned earlier We as a trust have taken the opportunities of the Core funding to provide support for backfill for staff to take part in recruiting onto portfolio studies : also collaborative research bids for NIHR grants: will expand later

8 Future focus Family and Child Health: Autism spectrum, Disordered eating, Obesity Delirium & Dementia Leadership Culture/ethnicity/spirituality & health Service User and Carer experience Building a research focus and reputation- for home grown research A key part of growing success will be building on BDCT’s existing known strengths. From recent consultation and review of our strategy and review of current projects we have identified clear areas of excellence therefore we propose that the focus for developing applied health research within the Trust will largely include the following areas: Dementia: Older peoples (mental health) research: beginning to develop team here Addressing diversity : e.g. the development and modification of assessment and referral tools also therapies : link into the addressing depression: Addressing depression sits very well within the Research focus of the trust Family and childhood: e.g. Eating disorders, obesity and Autism: and collaborative teams here too Service user and carer experience: The aim is not to exclude all research outside these areas, but to build a ‘critical mass’ of experience and expertise in these domains by focusing our resources. Students and staff undertaking research projects in the Trust (e.g. Masters, PhD) should be encouraged to develop projects relevant to these Trust priorities.
