Think and Ink Respond to the following quotation by answering each of the questions below: “There is no such thing as life without bloodshed. Vocabulary Bildungsroman – a novel that revolves around a young protagonist’s development into a hero through episodic growth (a “coming-of-age” story) Motif – a situation, incident, idea, or image that is repeated significantly in a literary work Theme – central idea behind the story

Bildungsroman AKA: Novel of formation, novel of education, or coming-of-age story Literary theme focusing on the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist from youth to adulthood Protagonist engages in stages of the hero’s journey: separation, initiation and return Boundaries and limits are tested through conflict Loss of innocence occurs as a result of conflict and sacrifice

Theme of “Sacred Violence”
Evil and violence are inescapable No matter how peaceful or comfortable the appearance or situation, violence is always building under the surface. The theme of sacred violence has two components: Human's innate affinity for violence/bloodshed The futility of denying this affinity
