Ladybird Class Topic Web
English This term, we will continue to develop our use of capital letters for names of people, places, days of the week and the personal pronoun I. Your child will be learning and securing the common exception words for year 1 (See school website Word list A). We will also continue to learn about adding prefixes and suffixes such as ing, ed, er and est and adding s and es as a plural. Computing In Computing, with Mrs Bowen, the children will embark on a journey through the history of computing by researching the remarkable advances computing and technology has made throughout time. The children will present their findings and develop their digital literacy skills by producing multi-media interactive eBooks. We hope you and your families had an enjoyable Easter Holiday. Lots of exciting learning is going to take place this term in Ladybird Class. Science Through the topic of plants we will be observing, measuring, presenting data and comparing seed and bulb growth. We will investigate conditions for germination and learn about the lifecycle of plants, frogs and butterflies. We will continue our observing and describing the weather associated with the four seasons first hand through our time in the Explorers Area . PE This half term, on a Wednesday morning, there will be an outdoor athletics focus with Mr Bailey and I shall be teaching swimming on a Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure long hair is tied back and earrings are removed. Ladybird Class Topic Web Summer 2017 Plants and Mini beasts Role Play Area: Garden Centre/Forest (Mini beasts). If you have any resources to either donate or loan to us to enhance this area, please let us know. Class Assembly 30th June On the afternoon of Thursday 25th May the children in Ladybird Class would like to invite you to watch our Maypole dancing whilst enjoying a cake and a drink or even the opportunity to join in! All money raised will go towards buying some new tools for the Explorers Area. Mrs Bowen and Mr Bailey will be teaching Ladybirds on a Wednesday morning PSHE Our units this term are ‘Healthy Lifestyles’ and ‘Managing Change’ . Maths In Maths, we will initially be securing knowledge of place value. Your child will continue to use money in real life experience by running our class snack shop. We shall be continuing and developing your child's multiplication and division and learning about fractions and measurement. Music In music this term, we will be learning to listen to music with concentration and appreciation. We will also learn to play tuned and un-tuned instruments. Art In Art, we will be learning about the British artist Andy Goldsworthy. The children will be making their own sculptures inspired by Goldsworthy. Geography During Geography lessons, we shall be learning how to use a compass.
