2 Scrambling Parts of speech: Noun, verb
Definition: to move quickly using both hands and feet We are scrambling over the rocks and up the hill.

3 Suffering Parts of speech: verb Definition: to feel pain or misfortune
She is suffering from a headache.

4 Colonies Parts of speech: noun
Definition: a place where a group of people come to settle which is rules by another country America was a colony of England before it became independent.

5 Patriots Parts of speech: noun
Definition: one who loves, supports, and defends his or her country The men and women who fought t preserve this country’s freedom are all great patriots.

6 Independence Parts of speech: noun
Definition: the state or condition of being independent or free. We celebrate our country’s independence on July fourth.

7 Shivered Parts of speech: verb
Definition: shake slightly and uncontrollably as a result of being cold, frightened, or excited. They shivered in the damp, foggy cold.

8 Ancient Parts of speech: adjective, noun
Definition: belonging to the very distant past and no longer in existence; an old person The letter looked ancient so he opened it carefully. The man looked like an ancient Greek prince with white hair.

9 Challenge Parts of speech: noun, verb
Definition: a call to take part in a contest or competition; dispute the truth or validity of He accepted the challenge. The class challenged the answer to one of the questions.
