4 Unit 2.06 Title IX: Preventing discrimination against girls and women in sports and education? Can I have a volunteer to read the passage below? “Our school has limited resources,” says Professor Seemy. “What if our school community, males AND females, chooses to fund boys’ sports disproportionately? Shouldn’t we have the right to make that choice?” “Inequity in school sports puts girls’ health at risk,” says Professor Kahn. “Girls who don’t play sports are more likely to smoke. They are also more likely to become teen mothers. These facts illustrate the importance of Title IX. Girls’ sports deserve adequate funding.” Professor Seemy says, “Let’s check that claim about smoking - right here in our classrooms!”
