EXAMPLES OF E-LEARNING MATERIALS EIT Meeting – Cyprus September 2007
We are going to present a second language acquisition project developed through a virtual learning environment. This project, called ICT-SUSTOUR, involves university students who are taking an ESP course of English for tourism studies, as well as environmental and tourism experts from four different countries. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used for communication has been developed by computer experts in Florida Universitaria (Affliated to University of Valencia) following teachers´ suggestions and needs. ?? 29/04/2019

E-learning activities: OBJECTIVES
OVERALL OBJECTIVE: provide IT based tools and resources for education that facilitate the integration of different tasks. PEDAGOGICAL OBJECTIVE: encourage real-life settings for communication in English as a means of increasing collaborative work and motivation. Our presentation will be divided into 7 parts: First of all, we will explain the reason why we decided to join this project. We will provide a short introduction and we will talk about its general objectives. Then we will provide an overall description of this project focusing on its two stages, the first one in conection with sustainability and the second one, of special interest in this presentation, focused on Second Language Acquisition- Finally, we will comment on the conclusion of the project described. 29/04/2019

Partnership: institutions from Spain, Finland, Portugal and Romania, with Florida Universitaria acting as the coordinating organization. Participants: three universities, one company dealing with environmental issues and one association of B&B managers. The project was divided into 2 stages: STAGE I: students, in national groups, analysed sustainability problems of a tourist area. STAGE II: students shared suggestions through the VLE with their international partners to overcome those handicaps. Stage 1: Developed in the first semester. Students worked exclusively in national groups with the help of their English teacher. Each country chose an endangered tourist area, wrote a diagnosis report and uploaded it to the VLE. Our presentation will be divided into 7 parts: First of all, we will explain the reason why we decided to join this project. Stage 2: Part of an ESP course. Developed in the second semester. Students worked online in 4 international teams. English: only language accepted for communication. SESSIONS ACTIVITIES Introduction International groups were introduced. Methodology and assessment criteria were explained. Short training in VLE use was provided. Online communication International groups posted a message to the forum: Introduction, area description, list of sustainability problems, ask for advice. International groups posted a list of possible solutions to problems of each area. Report writing Each national group posted a report including: list of problems analysed, solutions proposed and conclusions reached. Oral presentation Oral presentation on PowerPoint delivered in class. Video conference Participants discussed the project in a video conference. 29/04/2019

Conclusions: Motivating activity: satisfactory level of student motivation Interesting comparison of sustainability problems in different countries. Important project for language improvement. Positive impact of online collaborative techniques on their future careers. Students assumed a sense of responsibility. Development of individual autonomy. 29/04/2019

Unit: Socialising Students are provided with information about some Spanish traditions and festivals Students read the information and prepare the questions carefully Skype meeting: Students have a discussion on Spanish traditions Each student explains a Spanish festival or tradition and partners ask questions to get more information. 29/04/2019
