2 Do Now: Find your seat Take out your math packet/H.W.
Solve on your whiteboard: Mrs. Smith decided to paint her daughter’s room. She used the formula r=2b to determine the amount of red paint she would need when given the amount of blue paint. If Mrs. Smith used 2 cups of blue paint, how much red paint does she need? Use the equation to support your answer.

3 Today’s Objective I will be able to analyze tables, graphs and equations So I can compare rates in real world problems. I will show I know it when I can read the problems, and verbally discuss with my partners and then write the solutions to at least 2 out of 3 real world problems with at least 80% accuracy. 6.RP.A.2

4 Vocabulary Rate unit rate Table graph

5 We do… (pg. 81 ex. 2) Ms. Siple is a librarian who really enjoys reading. She can read ¾ of a book in one day. This relationship can be represented by the equation books=3/4 days, which can be written as b= ¾d, where b represents the number of books and d represents the number of days. Number of Days 1 2 3 4 Number of Books B = ¾ x days b= 3/4d

6 You do… (pg. 81 ex. 1) 1 2 3 4 2 4 6 8 r = 2 x blue r = 2b
Cups of blue paint 1 2 3 4 Cups of red paint 2 4 6 8 r = 2 x blue r = 2b

8 Page 82 #1 Solve on your whiteboards
What rate does Bryan travel at? What rate does ShaNiece travel at?

9 Page 82 #1 ShaNiece travels at 15 miles per hour.
3 Hours Miles 25 ? 50 ? 75 Brian travels at a rate of 25 miles per hour. The double # line had to be split in 3 equal sections. That’s how I got = 75. ShaNiece travels at 15 miles per hour. I know this by looking at the point (1,15) on the graph.

10 Page 82 #1 solve on your whiteboard
b. ShaNiece wants to win the bike race Make a new graph to show the speed ShaNiece would have to ride her bike in order to beat Bryan. Brian travels 25 miles per hour. Hours vs. Miles ShaNiece needs a rate of miles per hour, to beat Bryan. 150 120 (x, y) (hours , miles) 90 Number of Miles 60 ( 1, 30 ) ( 2, 60 ) 30 ( 3, 90 ) ( 4, 120 ) 1 2 3 4 5 ( 5, 150 ) Number of Hours

12 Page 83 (a-b) (b) Was the manager correct? Why or why not?

13 Page 83 (a-b) Braylen earned m = 10.50h
÷3 1 ??? ÷3 Tyce earned $𝟏𝟏.50 per hour. Braylen earned m = 10.50h m = 10.50(1) m = 10.50 Braylen earned $𝟏𝟎.5𝟎 per hour. (b) The manager was not correct because Tyce earned $𝟏 more than Braylen in one hour.

15 Victor was having a hard time deciding which new vehicle he should buy
Victor was having a hard time deciding which new vehicle he should buy. He decided to make the final decision based on the gas efficiency of each car. A car that is more gas efficient gets more miles per gallon of gas.

16 Legend: 72/4 = 18 miles per 1 gallon of gas Supreme: 50/3 = 16 2/3 miles per 1 gallon of gas Victor should buy the Legend because it gets 18 miles per gallon of gas, and the Supreme only gets 16 2/3 miles per gallon. Therefore, the Legend is more gas efficient.

17 After comparing the Legend and the Supreme, Victor saw an advertisement for a third vehicle, the Lunar. The manager said that the Lunar can travel about 289 miles on a tank of gas. If the gas tank can hold 17 gallons of gas, is the Lunar Victor’s best option? Why or why not? Lunar: 289/17 = 17 miles per 1 gallon of gas Victor should buy the Legend because it gets 18 miles per gallon of gas
